My journey to motherhood began with the inclusion of my stepson. Soon after that, I was pregnant. The birth of my first child was a planned homebirth; my second child was also a planned homebirth, only the second time I gave birth in the water. My stepson was able to be a part of these beautiful experiences and even though his father and I are no longer married, he has a great bond with his brothers. My birth experiences were beautiful, peaceful, amazing, and empowering.

Having already attended hospital births before I had my children, I quickly realized the difference between hospital and homebirths. Respecting the choice and sometimes the necessity to birth in a hospital, I began providing professional labor support as a Doula. I also realized that a hospital birth is not for everyone just as a homebirth is not for everyone. Every woman must give birth in a way that is comfortable to her, that will give her peace. To some that is in a hospital, to some that is with pain relief medication, to some it is natural. Every woman will have her preference and some will be determined out of medical necessity.  I have learned that regardless of the way a woman gives birth, it is more important that she is prepared and has adequate support.
